Death of ATV operator blamed on low-hanging high-voltage line
Adamstown man Edward Woodrow Steelman, 20, died in an ATV crash after colliding with a knee-high 7,200-volt power line on property owned by Core Development Group Inc. near New Market. A 15-year-old cousin also rode there. the line had been downed in a recent storm but remained energized. Potomac Edison said the fallen cable was not theirs. Core Development could not comment. Two Harris Smariga & Associates surveyors nearby summoned help. Steelman died at Frederick Memorial Hospital. The incident is described as an unfortunate accident due to unawareness of the area.
