Blizzard delays rescue as 14 Independent Hose members aid mother to hospital
A blizzard slowed rescue efforts in Yellow Springs as 14 Independent Hose Company firefighters and EMTs carried expectant mother Karen Westlock from her snowbound home to Frederick Memorial Hospital. With unplowed roads, the team hiked two miles, used a Stokes basket for patient removal, and relied on four-wheel drive and emergent support to reach the ambulance. The baby, Nicholas Andrew, arrived later that morning.
