County weighs Lake Spring merger with consolidated system
County commissioners study adding Lake Spring Water Company customers to the consolidated system or keeping them as a separate utility. Estimates show White Rock residents would pay about 2 cents more per month for water plus a surcharge to cover acquisition costs. Pinecliff would rise to about 1,526 annually for water and sewer if state approval is granted. Public hearings and customer feedback planned for May 1.

Economy GNP growth seen rising then slowing this year
Growth in the fourth quarter rose .4 percent and analysts predict a 2 to 2.5 percent pace in the current quarter. Forecasters warn much of earlier gains stem from inventory buildup and will be worked off later. Michael Evans cites a 2.23 percent start, easing to 2.1 percent in spring. Lyle Gramley agrees growth will sag as production tightens to burn excess inventories. Trade is expected to provide renewed stimulus after years of drag.
