Engineered heart cells show potential to repair damage
Louisiana State University researchers report that genetically modified mouse heart cells can be made to divide and beat like normal heart tissue. In a pig heart attack model, injected cells survived briefly and synchronized with neighboring cells, offering a possible path to repair scarred heart tissue in future humans. The work is in early stages and not yet for human trials.
