Truckers dispute rail firms on Conrail savings claim
The Maryland Motor Truck Association and two rail giants CSX and Norfolk Southern dispute a 19 million truck mile reduction cited for Conrail's proposed acquisition. Rail firms tout highway maintenance savings and reduced congestion while the trucking group warns of possible service problems, noting Maryland's heavy reliance on trucking for jobs and the economy. The decision on Conrail is due in July.
