Gatornationals Defeats Champions in Gainesville
The ninth annual Gatornationals saw top champions fail to qualify or reach finals. Don Garlits won Top Fuel defeating Kelly Brown, while Funny Car saw Dale Pulde claim his first NHRA national title over Don Prudhomme. Pro Stock crowned Frank Jaconic after Bob Glidden faltered, with Pro Comp won by Bogie Kell and Competition by Joe Williamson. Other class winners included Cotton Perry in Super Stock and Gary Long in Stock, with several drivers waiving Winston or Grace points.
