Ike Seen Returning to Speak for Spearheading Campaign
Political backers of General Dwight D. Eisenhower in Washington say he will return from Europe in time to speak during the Republican nomination campaign. Though he once said he would not take part in pre convention activities he may testify on the administration's foreign aid program. Paris discussions among Hoffman and Clay suggest Ike could come home if needed to testify, despite potential political cost. The Senate committee plans a vote on inviting Ike to testify, a move some backers fear could tie him too closely to Truman era policy.
