The Mississippi River continues to rise through March 15, with levels at 46.3 feet in Arkansas lowlands near the city, up from Saturday night. Levees hold but several smaller dykes broke. towns like Marion sit under several feet of water and stock losses mount as residents relocate.

The funeral of Mrs Martha E Mercier wife of Captain C E Mercier occurred Sunday at 9:30 am at her Point of Rocks home with Rev Page officiating. Pallbearers included William Chiswell David Thomas and Arch Bucuffer. Interment at Leesburg Cemetery. The funeral of Mrs Roama R Kemp will be Thursday at 9 West Second Street with interment at Mt Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs Henry Pope of Wharton Potter County withdrew 900 dollars from a Galeton bank and boarded a train to Wellsboro. At Ansonia while awaiting the Fat Brook connection she went to the Village hotel. A half hour later she was found unconscious on the road claiming a man struck her with a club and that her 900 dollars were gone.

Frankfort March 15 The sudden death of State Senator John P Salvers at his mountain home was announced by telegrams. Salvers, a Democrat, played a key role in last winter’s senatorial fight and his death removes doubt that Hunter, the Republican caucus nominee, will be elected on the joint ballot when it occurs.
At the conclusion of criminal court on Saturday Harrison Fox was sentenced to years for perjury in the Ash Dickson and James Bowell case from the December term. His brother, convicted with him and recommended to mercy, received 18 months.

Rome Ga March 15 a frightful passenger train wreck occurred early morning on the Southern railway approach to the high bridge over the Etowah river. The engine plunged two blurt feet high into the river with the engineer at his post. The wreck caught fire and seven cars were burned. Seven were injured and engineer James T Pittman and fireman Alfred Kennedy will probably die.
Tremont area mine disaster reported March 2 due to gas explosion at Brilddie Creek shaft. A fire spread, causing severe financial losses to the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Co and forcing several hundred miners to cease work for years.

Ex county treasurer Fair was arrested for embezzlement in Falk Indiana on March 15 and jailed after bond of 2600 could not be posted. He had turned the office over to his successor $12000 short. His son, a deputy, was arrested for forgery but posted bail. This marks the seventh ex county officer tied to DeKalb county crookedness with more citizens likely to be charged.
Pant Geng and John Bae, two convicted murderers, were resentenced by the Hudson County Court. Judges Lippinett and Tuesday fixed April 13 as the execution date. Genz accepted the sentence with calm, while Mackin showed fear. Genz killed his sweetheart. Mackin killed his wife and her mother.
