Four County Offices Propose Budget Reductions
Four of five FY 1973 budget requests presented to the County Commissioners are smaller than current allocations. Skunk Gas Backfires Causing 75000 Damage At Elmwood Apartments
A propane gas attempt to smoke out a skunk in Waverley Gardens Apartments sparked an explosion and fire that damaged 11 of 12 units in building F. Six units suffered fire damage and six smoke damage as flames spread through partitions from apartments 103 to 304. Construction superintendent Stonesifer was treated for smoke inhalation after escaping the blaze. Firefighters contained the blaze in 15 to 20 minutes.

The Frederick County Planning and Zoning Commission approved converting 208 acres south of Walkersville from A-1 agricultural to M-1 industrial use. Norman Todd backed by the Chamber of Commerce and Potomac Edison won over opposition from area residents and Walkersville officials. The site along the Monocacy River west of Retreat Road sits in the current A-1 plan and is slated for low density residential use in the new plan, which has not yet been adopted.
