State Worker Loses Job Under Ober Law
Baltimore March 14 A state worker Doris Shamleffer refused to sign the loyalty affidavit required by the Ober law and lost her job as a personnel examiner in the State Department of Employment and Registration. The other two Quakers, Elizabeth Haas and Dr Miriam Brailey, faced no immediate action. Haas plans job hunting and Brailey remains on leave. Attorney General Hall Hammond said the law is self executing and officials must ensure all public employees sign the affidavits.

Ancient City Traffic Lights Outmoded in Fatal Hit and Run
Two Frederick women died after a hit-and-run on East Parthies Street as officials fault outdated traffic signals for endangering pedestrians. Citizens argue jaywalking is safer than crossing downtown intersections due to lack of pedestrian provisions and no right or left turn regulations. City lists 16 control lights mainly on Market Street from All Saints to Seventh, with no progress on modernizing signals despite talks by the Mayor and Aldermen.
