A grippe cold epidemic and other contagious diseases have driven city school attendance to winter lows. F Frederick High logged over 100 absent one day last week, Elm Street about 15 percent short, and Washington Street School around 120 absent, more than 30 percent. Measles and mumps add to the disruption as several teachers are housed and bus loads shrink. Health officer Dr. C. E. Easterday reports no totals but notes the outbreak is near an even keel.

Washington March 15 A broad surplus potato relief plan tied to 1950 crop supports and cotton and peanut acreage reductions cleared a Senate-House conference panel and heads to President Truman for signature. Beall Bee Farm Shed Fire Threatens Nearby Homes
A blaze in a Lewisdale shed caused by melting honey on a kerosene stove sent flying bullets from stored .22 cartridges. Hyattstown volunteers fought the fire around 1 o clock, protecting the Beall dwelling and a nearby store. Turned Over To Police For Baltimore Trial
