Mt Airy Considers Second Water Well Drill
Mt Airy officials weigh sinking a second well at the pump-house site on Prospect Road to boost water supply. The town would borrow 15009 in bonds at under 2.5 percent, backed by the town charter of 1951, amid rising demand since the late 1920s well. The existing well remains the sole dry-season source, with about 104 feet depth and 8 inch casing. The plan adds a gasoline engine powered shaft for power backup and extra supply if the main well weakens. The town carries a funded debt of 40700, with 1200 in a sinking fund and 27300 net amount owed after adjustments.
