Oklahoma farm family fights estate tax shift plan
Oklahoma lawmakers push to mirror federal rules and lift the state estate tax for farms and businesses. Farmers Robert and Lynda Barnett say taxes cripple family ranches after parents died and fear losing land and heritage if exemptions rise only slowly. The measure, backed by Rep Clay Pope, would align Oklahoma with federal exclusions and other states, but opponents warn of eroding revenue and potential farm retirements.
