State eyes funding shift to boost Frederick County school libraries
Delegate Hecht pushes state proposals to extend elementary library support to middle and high schools. Frederick County reports only 15 of 16 elementary schools meet state standard of 12 000 items while none of eight high schools meet 18 000 items. County spends about 9 360 per pupil on libraries, far below needs according to educators. Urbana High and others show long-running shortfalls despite ongoing purchases.
