Auction of 57 ponies rescued from Torture Trail in New York
In upstate New York the 57 rescued ponies and horses were auctioned amid mixed feelings among animal lovers. Buyers paid high prices to outbid horsemeat traders as authorities work to improve livestock transport laws. The case highlights ongoing cruelty concerns on the I87 Adirondack Northway corridor to Canada and prompts proposed bills to regulate two tier trucks, ventilation, protection, and loading ramps with penalties for violators. Local rescue efforts and public outrage frame the outcome as legislators consider stricter rules to prevent future abuse.
