Washington March 12 A top Teamsters Union official in Oregon testified to the Senate rackets committee that some union records are likely destroyed including invoices and canceled checks but he would be disturbed if all books were disposed of The committee, pursuing evidence of graft and organized crime, questioned whether Joist Council 37 records from mid 1954 onward were destroyed and tied this to figures tied to a Portland operation The witness insisted he was telling the truth and said there may be no connection to alleged schemes by Seattle gamblers The exchange occurred as other witnesses faced questions on payoffs and detector tests with Oregon and Portland figures named in the probe.
