Roads ranked among nation’s best by Michigan professor
Dr. John Worley testified to the Maryland House Judiciary Committee that Maryland roads are in the top 10 nationwide and may be No. 1, while opposing a bill to cut axle load from 22 400 to 18 000 pounds. He cited obsolescence over truck damage and noted a 20 mile stretch on U S 40 near Frederick as an example. Lawler Dels and Marshall, Montgomery Republicans, framed the debate using La Plata road test data and a highway officials group recommendation for the 18 000 pound limit.
