Frederick County Patron-Teachers endorse 250000 school bond
The Frederick County Patron-Teachers Association unanimously endorsed a $250,000 school bond issue at Winchester Hall with about 330 members present. Col. D. John Marker led the meeting electing officers, while A LeRoy McCardell outlined the need for new facilities in Knoxville Jefferson New Market Thurmont Middletown Myer sville Lewistown and Kemptown amid crowded buildings and aging schools.

Perry C Hantos a Canadian war veteran traveled on foot with his wife and infant daughter from San Francisco to Hoboken over 11 days reaching Hoboken on a Saturday. He left San Francisco with 15 cents and arrived with $1. The family received supper lodging from Capt Luther T Shiffer of the Salvation Army in the city. They continued to Baltimore Philadelphia and Hoboken aided by motorists and aid from the Salvation Army. Hantos served in Canada during the war as a swimming instructor and sign painter and left San Francisco due to lack of work.
