Maryland U Wins In House By Single Vote
Maryland lawmakers failed by one vote to force the University of Maryland to submit detailed budgets. The bill needed a majority of the House of Delegates to pass, receiving 61 votes to 56 against. Proponents argued it would protect taxpayers, while opponents said the governor already has authority over budgeting. The House ordered a full investigation of the university’s fiscal affairs.
