Rev Paul H Greichman of the Evangelical Lutheran church condemns compromising essentials for ease in a Lent sermon at Calvary Methodist. He argues truth stays true by its own merit and Christian faith cannot bow to comfort or circumstance, citing examples from scripture and urging steadfast devotion. The message titled The Forgotten God cites Genesis 35:2 as a call to cast out “strange gods.”
The Court of Appeals ruled former Baltimore police lieutenant Edward L. Hine berger must serve one year in the State Penitentiary on two counts of malfeasance. The sentence, already upheld in the Criminal Court, stems from a grand jury probe into vice conditions in Baltimore.

The Jefferson P T A met Tuesday evening with president Ira Remsberg presiding. The program was arranged by the Lander Women's Club and included songs by a quartet and solos, a moving picture on lighting the farm home, and refreshments served by the club. The next meeting is set for May 10.

Spanish insurgents under Gen Juan Yazue seized Belchite, Aragon, after bombardment forcing government troops to retreat east. The advance boosts a spring offensive, with insurgents massing troops including Americans among prisoners, as they push toward Barcelona and seaboard sectors. Belchite lies about 225 miles from Spain’s eastern coast and 150 miles west of Barcelona.
In Evansville Indiana March 10 Judge Marion J Rice presided over a night court session that drew a full house of spectators. After a brief conference with the bailiff the judge announced there would be no court session due to there being no business on the docket.
Several hundred people from Maryland Pennsylvania and West Virginia are set for the annual Sprog tour of the Percheron Breeders of Frederick County on Saturday starting at 9 in the morning. Final plans show acceptances from most Maryland sections and other states. Bus loads will come from the Eastern Shore St. Marys and Charles counties if weather permits. A sound track will accompany the tour with meeting at the Frederick fairgrounds at 2 p.m. before visits to eight or nine county farms where Percheron horses are bred.
