Farmland stakes clash with new zoning in Frederick County
Frederick County’s 1977 zoning ordinance aimed to protect farmland by limiting growth in agricultural zones and concentrating development near existing communities. Some officials propose market-friendly tweaks, while the Farm Bureau backs a state program paying “development rights” to keep land farmable, though costly.
