Defense Dept asks Congress to plug gap for spies
Washington March 9 The Defense Department urged Congress to close a "serious gap" through which potential spies and saboteurs could enter key industries. General counsel Wilber M. Brucker testified that the defense facilities bill would bar such individuals from plants now doing defense work but needed in war, addressing areas lacking protection under existing law. The subcommittee on government operations, chaired by Senator Humphrey, weighed reorganizing the security program as it reviews the administration’s approach.
