Local LVC choir and orchestra to perform in Frederick
Lebanon Valley College Concert Choir and Chamber Orchestra, featuring local students Robert P Baker of New Windsor and Kirk M Wise of Frederick, will perform at Trinity United Methodist Church Frederick Friday March 10 at 8pm. The program, free and open to the public, travels from Hood College after energy rules changed venue. The group, directed by De Pierce Getts, is renowned for touring eastern Europe behind the Tron Curtain and for a 1974 Prague standing ovation and four encores in Salzburg. The Frederick stop is part of a southeastern U S tour ending with a March 12 home concert in Annville, with performances of works by Kastalsky Palestrina Bach and others.

Sensenbaugh receives Carroll school award at AASA convention
The American Association of School Administrators honored retired Maryland state superintendent Dr. James A. Sensenbaugh with its Distinguished Service Award at the Atlanta convention February 17 to 20. The award recognizes long service and leadership in public school administration and eligibility requires ten years in AASA and retirement from a full-time post.

State alcohol and tobacco tax revenues rise in January 1978
January 1978 alcohol and tobacco tax receipts totaled 7,280,330 with a 1 rise over January 1977. Tobacco tax revenue reached 4,223,621, up 69,370 or 16.7 percent from the prior year. For seven months fiscal year 1978 alcohol and tobacco tax totaled 46,670,655, slightly below last year’s pace. Distilled spirits and wine show some growth while tobacco and beer lag behind last year. An official public meeting on Harpers Ferry National Historical Park pilot transportation plan is scheduled for March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Visitor Center. National Park Service officials will present alternatives and invite public input. Copies of the report are available at park HQ and local libraries.
