Reds Sign 15YearOld Pitching Prospect Nuxhall
New York reports the Cincinnati Reds signed 15 year old Joe Nuxhall for June delivery, claiming him the youngest major league contract signer. Publicity disputes aside, Reds GM Warren Giles emphasized Nuxhall’s pledge was not war driven, citing his knot hole ball roots, six seasons pitching, and a recent tryout at Crosley Field with manager Bill McKechnie impressed by his poise. Nuxhall, in ninth grade at Wilson Junior High School, will finish school before joining Bloomington duties, possibly even a National League game at 15.
