Richardson Gets 10 Years For Killing Mrs Norwood
John Richardson, 32, of Green Valley, found guilty of manslaughter in the January 20 shooting death of Mrs. Laura Norwood near Price's Distillery. He received a ten year sentence in the Maryland Penitentiary as the courtroom reacted with applause and officials sought the culprit. The defense argued the rifle discharge was accidental during flight from Norwood and his son. Schooling letters and gifts from Mrs. Norwood were admitted to support emotions and motives, while the state contended Richardson borrowed the rifle, threatened the Norwoods, and shot Mrs. Norwood in the yard before leaving. Testimony focused on whether the shooting was intentional.
