LAUREL, MD Two people died after a police chase ended in a fiery crash on the Hullimore Washington Parkway early today. The northbound lanes between MD 297 and Route 1 were closed about five hours from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. U S Park Police said officers attempted a traffic stop at the NASA Goddard Exit and were unable to determine why the driver fled.
Emergency calls logged Wednesday afternoon across Frederick County towns including Piro, Wollaville, Myersville, Jefferson, Walkersville, Lewistown, and Thurmont. Incidents cited at 2 p.m. to 4:12 p.m. involve medical emergencies and ambulance responses with multiple locations such as 464 Brushets Jefferson and 105 Rptherton.
Montgomery County officials unveiled the 2001 Top Ten Worst Scams highlighting postal and credit card fraud, phishing and deceptive mailings. The report cites 4600 consumer complaints, warns against sharing birth dates or Social Security numbers, and urges residents to report suspicious calls or mail to Consumer Affairs.
A car crash on the 18000 block of Camus Road Wednesday night sent one passenger to K Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with severe head injuries. The driver and another passenger were transported to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville with minor injuries. The incident, reported at 6:19 p.m., is under investigation. Names of all three involved have not been released.
A Frederick High School student required treatment at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a Wednesday afternoon fight with another student. Police say the ages are not released and no charges are filed. Assistant principal Natolly noted police involvement when students fight near a bowling alley.
Frederick County and Maryland Beaches forecast with mixed clouds and sun. Tonight lows upper 20s to mid 40s near the coast, Friday to Sunday warm with mid 60s to mid 80s and a chance of showers, then snow showers Sunday morning. Monday clears with lows near 20s and highs near 40s.
Weather update shows cloudy mild conditions across the mid-Atlantic and Southeast while a disturbance in Florida brings clouds and rain showers. Snow is forecast for the Dakotas and upper Mississippi Valley with lighter totals in Minnesota and North Dakota. Central Rockies and Pacific Northwest face mountain snow showers and gusty winds with high accumulations expected in the Sierra and Western Ryumning regions.
Thien Huu Pham, 18, of 8890 Garland Avenue, faces first degree murder and assault charges after a Feb. 15 stabbing in the Redland Baptist Church parking lot. Police say the victim, socializing with friends in Wheaton, was attacked after meeting to discuss a prior dispute. a separate shot was fired. Pham is held at Montgomery County Detention Center with additional arrests anticipated.
Montgomery County police seek information on 24 year old Carol Mattis of Silver Spring and her 60 year old daughter last seen near their Haines Street home around 8 am Wednesday. Mattis has developmentally impaired mental capacity of a nine year old. she and her daughter usually ride buses. Contact police at 201 363 7740 or 241 279 8000.
