Selective buying helps market end mixed in thin trading
Wall Street finished mixed as selective buying and a weaker dollar kept gains modest. The Dow rose 7.95 to 3,997.56 while decliners outpaced advancers about 2 to 1 on the NYSE. Volume reached 301.09 million shares as bonds steadied and analysts weighed dollar impact and possible Fed action. The dollar’s slide boosted overseas exposure for some firms but raised concerns about higher rates. Major upticks came from consumer non cyclical and tech names such as Philip Morris, Advanced Micro Devices, and Texas Instruments. International stocks were mostly flat or down. Public notice: Weichert Realtors in Frederick will host a home buyers seminar on Wednesday March 8 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 1065 W. Patrick St.
