Louise Bias, mother of Len Bias who died of a cocaine overdose, spoke at Gaithersburg Elementary urging adults to build self esteem in children and involve them in anti drug efforts. She stressed early nurture, listening, and role modeling to counter substance abuse and media influence.

FMH to Break Ground on Emergency Department Expansion
Frederick Memorial Hospital plans a March 18 ground breaking for an $8.1 million Emergency Department expansion that will more than triple the current 4,000 square foot, eight-bay unit serving over 40,000 patients annually. The two story facility will add four operating room suites, two new rooms, and space for future floors, plus a triage area, surgical suites renovation, OB Gyn and pediatric rooms, a crisis suite, X-ray, and orthopaedic and special procedures rooms as part of the 1989 strategic capital plan.
