Letter from W. E. Gorres of Arlington Maryland critiques Mr. Smith’s plan to empower county commissioners as road supervisors responsible for 200 miles each. He argues for experienced oversight, proper foremen, and use of road machines, warning that equalized sections would delay repairs and favor machine work over labor.

Life of the Legislature Sees Few Laws Pass
The General Assembly has four weeks left to complete business with no major general bills enacted yet. The assessment bill dominates attention. its passage could trigger a special Senate session in May to appoint officials and administer new taxes. Officials estimate costs between 250 960 and 330 060, with hundreds of assessors to value property, churches and graveyards likely exempt. Some lawmakers favor taxing churches and graveyards, but that view is in the minority.
