Husband floods court with tearful testimony in Aron case

In Montgomery County Circuit Court Ruthann Aron’s husband Dr Barry Aron testified through tears about their 30 year marriage as prosecutors press a murder for hire case. He acknowledged writing a note saying if she disliked his affair she could shoot herself in the head while insisting he would do anything to keep the marriage intact. He admitted signing papers giving her control after divorce and described years of tensions including separate bedrooms and her public social life. A friend testified Ruthann Aron discussed silencers en route to a Chantilly gun range and investigators pursue further testimony as the defense rests.

Senate favors judicial pay hike in Maryland

The Maryland Senate backed a proposed 11,175 pay raise for judges, rejecting two attempts by Sen. Michael Collins to scale it back. The plan would lift the chief judge of the Court of Appeals to 133,500 annually, following a judicial salary commission recommendation amid broader state raises. Collins argued the rise was too generous while most state workers gain only 1,175.

Sen Barbara Hoffman notes the Budget and Taxation Committee backs the salary commission plan to raise Maryland judges to or above neighboring states. Critics warn the $11 175 increase is too high, while supporters say higher pay helps attract top private lawyers and counter judicial recruitment issues. The proposal takes effect unless both houses veto.
