Mediation in Montgomery County teachers contract ends with union rejection
Mediation between Montgomery County school officials and the Montgomery County Education Association ends with the union rejecting any offer without an across the board cost of living increase. Carole J. Burger says a similar proposal to one approved for other staff was discussed but not spelled out. Union executive director Tom Israel denies that rejection occurred. A mediator's non binding recommendation is expected mid month.

Fumes Evacuate Boonsboro Nursing Home Residents
Fumes of unknown origin forced the evacuation of about 150 residents at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro on Main Street Friday afternoon. Four staff were treated and released, while 76 residents were moved to Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church and another 34 to a separate building on site. HAZMAT teams and the Maryland Department of the Environment investigated as ambulances from multiple counties treated residents and monitored vital signs. the chemical could not be identified and appeared to dissipate by about 6 p.m.

Bus attack in Natal province kills ten commuters
