County seeks permit for Frederick crematorium expansion
Frederick County has applied to the Maryland Department of the Environment for a permit to build a crematorium as part of the new Maryland Department of Agriculture Animal Health Laboratory. The $10,000 unit would burn up to 500 pounds of animal remains hourly, replacing the current 300-pound system. The facility, planned near Rosemont Avenue and Montevue Lane, could open by June 1994 if funding is available, with total costs at about $128 million and shared contributions of $375,000 from county and state, leaving $530,000 unfunded.
