High winds and snow cause two U S 15 crashes near Thurmont
Two accidents on northbound U S 15 between Roddy and Franklinville roads trapped occupants and closed the highway as 29 degree conditions and blowing snow reduced visibility. Ambulances ferried three minor injuries to Frederick Memorial Hospital while responders cut a trapped occupant from the first wreck and a second victim remained entrapped about 15 minutes. Investigations were led by Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

Walkersville Native Lettie Mallard Dies at 100
Lettie Noble Mallard, 100, of 402 Challedon Drive Walkersville, died at home. She lived in North Carolina before moving to Walkersville 26 years ago and was a Pleasant Hill Christian Church member. Survived by two sons Roger C. Mallard and Randall G. Mallard, two daughters Glenmore Moore and Gloria Gray, and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Pleasant Hill Church with Rev. Robert Bucknam officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Pollock Welles & Best Funeral Home.
