The Government Printing Office, expanding from a Washington store and mail order, will open four stores in federal buildings in Chicago and Kansas City and two more planned, with possible future sites in other federal buildings nationwide. Public Printer James Harrison says the move follows President Johnson’s directive to improve government services and aims to broaden access to publications amid limited reception from commercial bookstores. The office reports strong mail order subscribers and ongoing wholesale distribution, while exploring space in commercial buildings if demand grows.
