House Rejects Gun Control Bill in Maryland Vote

A Maryland House committee, by an overwhelming voice vote, rejected a bill expanding Bland's gun control law to rifles and shotguns. The measure, sponsored by Del. Leonard Blondes, would have imposed a seven day waiting period, an application, and state police investigation for purchases, similar to existing pistol rules. Opponents argued the bill unfairly penalizes licensed hunters and could hamper self defense. Proponents claimed the steps would deter violence, while critics cited questionable statistics and the impact on 71,000 licensed hunters and sportsmen.
