Better Days Ahead Moran Predicts Short Economic Rebound
Edwin B. Moran, Chicago credit expert, warned that tough times lie ahead for civilian production with backbreaking taxes and heavy controls. He said sacrifices are necessary for the present program, but predicted the downturn will last no more than 15 months as peacetime conditions return and a buyer's market reemerges.

Mints Busy With Dimes More Than Nickels
Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago officials note US mints produced 12 million dimes versus 1 million nickels last year. They question if inflation explains it, citing that nickels last longer and contain more copper than pennies. The 1940s saw similar nickel output, with 105 million nickels versus 235 million dimes. With about 27 billion in circulation, money moves through reserve and Treasury channels. The dime may be replacing the nickel as small change, while the US leads global coin production, followed by Russia Venezuela and Iran.
