Davis warned erosion and drainage issues threaten corn and tobacco output, citing the Linganore watershed and potential swamp land reclamation on the Eastern Shore. He noted PMA policy shifts, acreage allotments, and new reporting rules for lime and fertilizer deliveries as part of upcoming program tweaks.

Canning Boom Supports Farm Wages in Maryland

A Maryland study by the American Can Company shows commercial canning boosted farm wages to over 124 million dollars in recent years with 1950 wages alone exceeding 3.5 million for seven crops. The report credits high speed canning, improved containers, and market expansion for long term farm employment gains across the state and notes the shift from grain to canning crops as a key economic driver. It also mentions a West Virginia pulp and paper booklet distributed to promote forest practices and pulpwood production.
