Court upholds plea bargaining limits in Loveday case
Maryland Court of Appeals rules prosecutors are not obligated to reveal plea bargain terms to a suspect. The Loveday case centered on a defendant with prior violent offenses who rejected a plea offering a maximum 10 year sentence while pursuing a mandatory 25 year term after trial. The ruling underscores the court’s view of plea bargaining as a critical yet unilateral tool in the criminal justice system.
