Frederick County Board of Education voted Monday to merge Frederick High School and West Frederick Junior High School into one consolidated 7 through 12 program led by a single principal. Existing principals and vice principals will be reassigned, no layoffs, and overall administration kept cost-neutral with an administrator team replacing current posts.
Frederick County Commissioners approved a 1972 operating budget of 20,386,000 with total revenues projected at 19.1 million, including 10.9 million from property taxes and 3.1 million from income taxes. The plan increases school funding to 10.4 million and allocates 1.2 million to roads and 1.9 million to capital projects, with detailed lines pending release.

Gravel shows South Vietnamese generals planning the 1963 coup against Ngo Dinh Diem were in contact with a U S representative more than two months earlier. The study notes State Department advisers warned that Ngo Dinh Nhu's continued power was intolerable and that Diem might not be preservable. Ambassador Lodge told the generals Washington could not support a regime including Nhu but keeping Diem was up to them. The plan, begun in late August 1963, preceded the November assassinations. Kennedy advisers worried about rushing a switch in leadership. The study concludes the coup was premature and Washington’s anxiety proved unfounded.
