Frederick County sees 62.4 percent of dwellings owner occupied while the national rate is 58.9 percent. Growth came before a building slump, aided by higher incomes and accessible mortgage money. Median home price rose to 17,700 with total local home value around 288.9 million.
State Police reported two accidental shootings over the weekend. Charles Heatherly, 21, of West South Street, was wounded in the upper leg on Mt Ephraim Road near Sugar Loaf Mountain Sunday after a .357 mag revolver discharged while being spun by William White. Ronald Gumm, 7, of Emmitsburg, was hit in the upper arm by a .22 rifle near St. Anthony's Church Monday. no charges were filed.
The Frederick County Cancer Crusade exceeded its goal for the Maryland Division with receipts of 27830.10, topping the $25000 target by 3000. Crusade chair Sterling E. Bollinger credited 1400 volunteers and over 100000 literature pieces distributed, noting a slower drive but stronger follow up and public education.
