MacArthur Would Have Halted POW Row, Says He Would
In Baltimore on June 3 Rep Van Zandt of Pennsylvania told Maryland VFWs that had General Douglas MacArthur been in charge in Korea, he would have denied the North Korea action and halted the anti Communist prisoners release. He argued the United States blundered by not controlling the situation and urged supporting an investigation into veterans hospital care affidavits. He noted free hospitalization abuses and argued high earners should not qualify. Maryland’s Friedel Gaertner Fallon and other Democrats opposed the amendment, saying it would reflect on all veterans seeking aid.
