Route 28 gets face lifting on key Montgomery farm road
The State Roads Commission began work on Route 28 between Hunting Hill and Darnestown to straighten curves, shave hills, and widen the lanes to 22 feet with eight foot shoulders. The $250000 project uses old roadbed as base saving money and employs convicts from the Maryland House of Correction plus six machinists and engineers. Detours direct traffic via Highway 112 and Travillah Road as work aims to open by January 1. Route 28 serves upper Montgomery farmers and as an alternate Washington Frederick route.
