Tornado Strikes Woodsboro Farm Causing Destruction
A Woodsboro area farm escaped injury as a tornado ripped a narrow path through the Matthews residence and outbuildings on the Woodsboro Creagerstown Road around 4 45 p m. Two large sheds were lifted and moved 75 yards and a porch was shattered while a milk cow was killed. A lightning strike hit a light pole as electric lines were torn loose. Linemen from Potomac Edison worked to shut off live lines. The Matthews family sought shelter in a interior room as the storm passed within seconds. State Police reported little other damage in the area.

Frederick residents faced another heat spike with temperatures near 90 after a brief cool spell. A tornado touched down near the Woodsboro area around 4:40 p.m., ripping through the Matthews farm, damaging structures, a car, and livestock. The county received .16 inches of rain, totaling 2.01 inches for the month, still below the June average. Highs today are forecast 85 to 90 with isolated thunderstorms later.

Yienger Named Plant Manager Aerojet Wins Contract
Yienger named manager of Aerojet General Corporation Industrial Systems Division in Frederick after serving as acting manager since last February. The company won a $5.4 million Post Office Department contract to build computers and conveyors to speed parcel post in northern California, with design by Post Office engineers and a fixed price bid. The parcel post system includes receipt sorting and dispatch of zip coded parcels, using 25,000 feet of conveyor on three levels in the new Oakland facility, part of Aerojet’s $20 million project. Yienger, 38, joined Aerojet in 1962 after leaving Von Karman Center Azusa. He is a Baltimore native with an MBA from Harvard, lives in Rockville with wife and three sons.

Six Hurt In Two Car Crash On I 70 Near Urbana
Six people were injured in a two car collision along Interstate 70 near the Urbana intersection during a heavy rain. Nelson E. Damon 22 of Portland Maine and his wife Patricia 19 and their three month old daughter Deborah were admitted to Frederick Memorial Hospital. Damon's wife suffered a fractured arm and lacerations while he had chest pains and lacerations. The baby was observed. Richard G Hall of Grand Rapids Michigan and his wife Eleanor 25 were admitted to Walter Reed Army Hospital for internal injuries. A passenger in the Hall car Miss Carol A Kamminga 24 of Grand Rapids was treated and released for minor lacerations and abrasions. State Police said the crash occurred about 7 35 p m as Damon drove north on 708 and Hall south. Hall lost control skidded across the centerline and collided with Damon. The 1952 and 1964 cars were demolished. Trooper N G McBride charged Hall with failure to keep to the right.
