Municipal officers sworn in as deputies
Frederick County police officers are sworn as special deputies of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Jim Hagg said the move lets officers enforce duties beyond their home jurisdictions. The change follows a Thurmont officer’s out of town DWI charge that lacked jurisdiction, causing several traffic cases to be dismissed.

Police Probe Two Sexual Assault Reports In Frederick
Frederick City Police investigate two sexual assaults reported last week. On June 18 a woman was raped outside a residence on West College Terrace by a white man. The next day a black youth about 16 accosted a victim leaving a Church Street parking deck. Additional details were not released. Deputizing county officers and former investigators as special deputies raises liability and enables indictments and issuing warrants. Sheriff and state attorney support the plan.

Flood watch issued for Frederick and western Maryland counties
Frequent rain prompted a flash flood watch by the National Weather Service, valid until 10 p.m., with meteorologist Bob Melrose noting likely showers rather than heavy downpours. Frederick officials said rainfall was spread out enough to avoid major flooding, though watchful for usual flood-prone spots along Israel’s Creek and the Monocacy River.
