Macho Maryland Guard unit defends its honor in readers letter
Captain Herman Deener of the Maryland Army National Guard responds to a Frederick Post reader’s charge that the unit’s parade display was deceptive. He defends the guard as citizen soldiers with long service, cites past battles and medals, and invites the public to observe training chows, scholarships, and community work. He apologizes for any offense while insisting the unit is “macho” in the original sense of courage and strength.
