County tax rate set at 85 cents per $100 assessed

The Frederick County Commissioners fixed the tax rate at 85 cents per $100 this year, versus 86 cents last year, with a total county levy of about $30,812,275. The plan includes spending roughly $280,764.79 for all county purposes, with over one third directed to schools, and a notable increase in the School Board appropriation to about $105,000. The state rate rises to 31 cents this year, up from 10 cents three years ago, and may reach 50 cents. The tax mix will fund pensions, constables, magistrates, witnesses, vaccinations, coffins and graves, inquisitions, printing, clerk and deputy sheriff costs, and attorneys fees.
