In Salisbury Maryland a secret inquiry into Miss Wainwright’s death seeks to reveal concealed Circumstances. Court and police aim to keep testimony from public view while about fifty witnesses from business and social circles are summoned. Officials now believe an illegal operation caused the death, likely inside the gas company office hours before she died.
Two trained nurses, galie Roque and Catherine Lacy, both from Bedford Hills, were found dead in their room at the Montefiore Home for Chronic Invalids. A preliminary investigation suggests one woman shot the other and then killed herself. The case points to murder followed by suicide.
