Speaker Marshall received a fine Haviland china set and a silver service. clerks got purses of money. Senate actions included funding debates on the heat power plant and apportionment bills. A four-year school payment plan was approved with four installments. Ship Sustaina wrecked near Ren, Newfoundland. 306 aboard, all escaped with some injuries.

Seven Masted Steel Schooner Contract Signed
Boston on June 27 Captain J G Crowley of Taunton Mass and the Fore River Engine and Shipbuilding company signed to build a seven masted steel schooner. Plans are being prepared by B B Crowninshiel designer of the yacht Independence.

Train Plunged Through a Trestle West of Peru Indiana
Thirteen people were killed and about fifty seriously injured when the westbound New York and St. Louis Limited wrecked nine miles west of Peru, Indiana. The train plunged through a trestle undermined by recent rains. Most dead were Italian immigrants en route to Colorado. among the injured is boy newsboy John F. Williamson with multiple fractures. Engineer Butler and fireman Adams escaped serious harm. The list of the deceased includes Mrs. Mattie Cruse New York and Miss Fannie Muhlote New York along with several Italian men, women, and babies.

Well Known Railroader Oscar Esser Dead
Tunkhannock Pennsylvania June 27 Oscar Esser ex superintendent of the Pennsylvania and New York division of the Lehigh Valley railroad died at his home yesterday from an illness that began last August He was born at Mauch Chunk in 1851 and rose from errand boy to division superintendent through successive offices.

Storm Rages Through Pittsburg and Homestead Killing One
A severe thunderstorm struck Pittsburg and Homestead with 30 mph winds and heavy rain. One woman in Homestead, 24 year old Alice Lester, was killed by lightning. Grace Jackson and Richard Rucker were injured, while several others were shocked or burned. The storm caused fires, washed out bridges, damaged buildings, and disrupted rail service across the region, with extensive property loss and panicked crowds at a large picnic in South Avenue Park.
