Frederick veteran buried in California found by locals
Frederick resident John Lewis and his wife saw a California newspaper photo of Civil War veteran Benjamin Franklin Muma’s gravestone. Muma, born in 1825 Frederick, mined in California after Mexico, later ranching near the San Antonio Mission and Cambria, California. The Cambrian photo notes misprint of birthplace Fredericktown, now Frederick. Local readers sought the grave but could not locate the cemetery.
