Insight on human relations and sex balance in schools

HEW guidance urges school systems to avoid sex bias in policies and materials. When course enrollments skew by sex, systems must prove non discriminatory policies, counseling, and descriptions. Solutions include exploratory courses, shared senior offering, integrating introductory elements, and universal encouragement by counselors. Title IX limits support to discriminatory organizations and requires pregnancy related disability coverage. Gilbert ruling does not apply to Title IX. Earlene Thornton, Chairman Education Committee, Frederick County Human Relations Commission.
